Rodney Gayle is a Managing Director at Phoenix with more than 25 years of executive experience in operations and technology roles across a broad array of industries in small, medium and large organizations. With a background in manufacturing, technology, and financial services, he brings a unique blend of functional insight across all areas of operations including manufacturing, distribution, quality, vendor management, business engineering and process improvement. This insight, together with technology expertise and financial acumen, allows for seamless integration of business intelligence, operational improvement, and organizational design. The combination of operational and technology expertise allows him to provide clients immediate value in areas of operations, technology, business risk evaluation and strategic planning.

SELECTED ADVISORY ASSIGNMENTS

  • Served as Operations Advisor and led the operational assessment and subsequent turnaround process for a $45 million annual revenue precision parts manufacturer that was experiencing profitability challenges. Mr. Gayle established a continuous improvement team to focus on critical issues in the operational processes and introduced performance metrics to monitor, track and improve manufacturing efficiency. He drove a recommitment to the enterprise platform for planning, bringing efficiency and predictability into the manufacturing output. He was able to re-invigorate an operations staff to focus on gaps in quality management, re-engineer quality processes and re-focus on critical roles and leadership within operations. Mr. Gayle provided technical leadership to guide IT in enabling positive change. He was a trusted advisor and facilitated the transition to new operational and organization leadership.
  • Served as Integration Executive for a $150 million annual revenue metal manufacturer and plastic injection molder serving Telecom/IT/Cloud, Agriculture and Energy industry sectors. Mr. Gayle played a critical role in helping the company integrate multiple add-on acquisitions. He was able to restart facility consolidation plans, manage and mentor people and cultures. Mr. Gayle helped stabilize the Company, completed the integrations, and assisted with the retention of critical customer and employee relationships.
  • Served as the turnaround lead on a $115 million annual revenue business services firm that was deteriorating rapidly due to a loss of key customers and a delay in action. He led the analysis which included the development of a 13-week cash flow model, variance reporting and a new forecast which helped the firm uncover significant process deficiencies. He guided the Company through corrective actions that would aid recovery and developed/presented to the Company’s senior lender to re-establish communications and relationships. The Company was well positioned for restructuring and recovery.
  • Served as the Operations Leader to multiple Quality of Earnings / Quality of Operations assessments. Across multiple industries in business services, manufacturing, distribution and logistics, Mr. Gayle provided critical analysis and opinion regarding the operational and financial performance, major risks and issues, and provided critical guidance on deal negotiations and operational improvements.
  • Served as Operational Advisor for a $110 million annual revenue construction products and plastics manufacturer, providing important feedback on the operational improvements necessary to facilitate a turnaround plan which included improvements in operational flow, supply chain, inventory and establishing operational metrics.
  • Served as Strategic Operational Advisor to a division of a construction products company, assessed a series of operational challenges, provided root cause analysis and guided the strategic planning process to address operational inefficiencies.
  • Served as Operations Advisor to assess the viability and quality of earnings/operations for a manufacturing company. Mr. Gayle provided insight and guidance to assess the issues and risks as well as identified opportunities for profit improvement and growth, information that proved to be invaluable to the private equity.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE

Before joining Phoenix, Mr. Gayle worked in a variety of entrepreneurial and leadership roles. For 15 years he served in several leadership roles with a Fortune 50 company, MetLife. With a focus in technology and operational functions, he served insurance, banking and customer service verticals. Mr. Gayle has held sales management positions within the beverage industry and managed distribution, logistics and operations for a fast-growth software company. He spent many years as a manager and partner for a private company in precision machining, plastic forming and manufacturing where he provided hands-on leadership.

EDUCATION / AFFILIATIONS

Mr. Gayle graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelors of Science in both Operations Management and Human Resource Management. Mr. Gayle is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt attained from Villanova University. He has been previously registered with FINRA holding a Series 6 and Series 26 licenses, has held additional insurance licenses in Life and Health and Property and Casualty as well as designated as an Accredited Mortgage Professional by the MBA.
