Jim Fleet is a Senior Managing Director and Shareholder at Phoenix Management Services with more than 25 years of executive management and advisory experience. He has led the Phoenix Boston office since its inception. His advisory experience includes more than 100 engagements in which he managed or provided material guidance in turnaround, investment banking and M&A assignments that have encompassed interim management roles, operational wind downs, bankruptcy §363 transactions and a variety of refinancing/recapitalization deals. His track record of success in a wide array of corporate environments, including private, public, international, and family-owned companies demonstrates his unique ability to adapt to the distinctive elements of each assignment. His style is to advocate strongly on behalf of his clients in a manner that builds consensus among all constituents, providing a credible and efficient process producing measurable results.

  • Served as the interim CEO of a global public software company, leading its transition to profitability after more than four years of significant losses.
  • Served as the Interim CEO of PE backed consumer products company featuring branded, non-branded and OEM products – some company manufactured domestically and some sourced overseas. Company’s products were sold through both “big box” retail and independent/regional outlets to both luxury and discount goods retailers. During a period of economic crisis and retail sales disruption, Jim stabilized the business and captured market share as the Company was consolidated into a larger entity.
  • Served as the financial advisor to a privately held machine and machine tool manufacturer, leading it to profitability after nearly three years of losses.
  • Served as the Chief Restructuring Advisor to a multi-location, family-owned equipment leasing company, leading it to profitability after two years of losses had created a liquidity crisis.
  • Served as the Chief Restructuring Advisor to a multi-state operation environmental technology company whereby both operations and balance sheet were restructured, with new capital coming into the Company allowing the Company’s ownership to retain significant equity position – all in an out-of-court process.
  • Served as the financial advisor to a family-owned printing-fulfillment industry, leading it to profitability after nearly three years of losses and expansion of its existing credit facility.
  • Served as the financial advisor to many investor groups in completion of operational/financial due diligence across a wide variety of industries and transaction types.

Jim held leadership positions in the following deals:

  • Financial Advisor for an $8.5 million sale of a privately held $50 million manufacturing and distribution company.
  • Financial Advisor for the refinancing of a privately held $30 million machine manufacturer.
  • Interim CEO and Financial Advisor in a $38 million sale of an international publicly traded $15 million software technology company with offices throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia Pacific Rim.
  • Interim CEO and Financial Advisor in a $35 million recapitalization of an international, revenue-branded consumer products company worth more than $100 million.
  • President and CEO to a precious metal manufacturer to boutique jewelry retailers and corporate recognition markets. During which he directed the Company’s bankruptcy filing, reorganization, and subsequent emergence in fewer than seven months. The Company enjoyed several years of profitability and growth during his tenure until the Company’s investors monetized their investment nearly five years later.
  • Assignee in an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors in the sale of assets of a $62 million venture-backed biomedical software technology company.


Prior to joining Phoenix, Jim spent considerable time in the manufacturing, advertising, and distribution sectors in roles ranging from Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, COO, and President/CEO in industries including precious metal manufacturing, insurance, hospitality, and advertising services.


Jim graduated with a B.S. in Economics and Finance from Southern New Hampshire University in 1984. He serves as an officer and sits on the Board of Directors for the Northeast Chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA). He also serves as Co-Chair of the Education Committee. He is active in the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG). Given Jim’s broad experience and communication presence, he often is asked to lead and speak on panels at industry conferences on a variety of subjects pertaining to turnaround management, restructurings (CRO), and bankruptcy/insolvency proceedings.
